Monday, August 31:
Mini-Workshop Evening with Nathan & Alison
2 x 75 minute classes for Beginner/Intermediate students
Take advantage of the 5th (extra!) Monday this August with a special evening workshop. Nathan and Alison will help you overcome your beginner shyness on the dance floor and have more fun dancing! (Register now)
7-8:15pm Surviving and Thriving on the Social Dance Floor
This class will help you make the leap from practicing in a safe classroom environment to getting more comfortable dancing on the social dance floor at the various dance parties around town. Topics include: recognizing the beat in the music, beginnings and endings of dances, graceful recovery from “mistakes”, dancing on a crowded floor, mixing 6-count, 8-count and Charleston steps, dancing to fast and slow music, and general dance etiquette. Perfect for beginners and intermediate students who haven’t yet taken the plunge into regular social dancing…or who just want to feel more confident!
8:30-9:45pm Rhythm and Spice: Jazzing up your Partner Dancing
In this class, you’ll learn how to integrate Jazz steps – those silly solo steps like Suzy Q, Shorty George, Boogie Back, Spank the Baby, and more – into your partnered dancing. Half the fun on Lindy Hop is all the silly styling, cool rhythmic syncopation, and improvising all of it with your partner. We’ll show followers how to insert and incorporate steps without startling their leaders, and teach leaders some common move openings that invite both partners to play!
Register online now and save your spot in class!
Costs: $15 for 1 class. $25 for both.
Location: The Women’s Building. 3543 18th Street, SF, 94110 (near Valencia)
Requirements: 2 months or more of Lindy Hop classes. You should know the swingout, lindy circle, some 6-count turns and side-by-side Charleston.
